You will be aware that much of our time is spent treating patients' illnesses, but it is true to say that prevention is far better than cure. This is the aim of our health promotion clinics which are detailed below. You can receive this preventative care from your doctor or from our practice nurses, by making an appointment. We will offer you advice and guidance and, if you wish, some leaflets which you can take home to study.
Health Checks for 40 - 74 year olds
For patients aged 40 to 74 years and not suffering from a cardiovascular condition, the Practice offers an NHS Health Check, which assesses your risk of developing cardiovascular disease in the next 10 years of your life. This check is performed by a Health Care Assistant (HCA) and includes a face-to-face and a telephone appointment. You will normally be invited in the month of your birth.
Health Checks for 75 years and older
If you are aged 75 and over you are eligible for a Senior Health Check aka 75+ check. You normally be invited to have the check as part of any annual reviews you are due in the month of your birth.
Well Woman Clinic
We aim to keep our women patients well by providing preventative care such as smears and breast examination. You can also discuss contraception and menopause problems.
Our practice participates in screening programmes and as such our patients are regularly recalled for:
Abdominal Aortic Aneurism Screening, Breast Screening, Bowel Cancer Screening
Wherever you turn nowadays you will find advice on dieting and the best foods to eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The problem is that the advice is often contradictory. We will give you straightforward advice about your nutritionary requirements whether your aim is to lose weight or just maintain a healthy body.
If you are diagnosed as diabetic then this clinic is geared towards improving your lifestyle wherever possible, whether your diabetes is controlled by tablets or insulin. This is a nurse led clinic with access to the podiatrist.
If you have been diagnosed with asthma or other respiratory problems you should attend for regular reviews with the nurse.
We are all prone to stress of some sort. Whether you would like to learn some relaxation techniques or just want to talk over some problems and know that what you say will be confidential, then we can help. It has been proven that high levels of stress often lead to more serious illness, ulcers being the example which most people would recognise. Learning to cope with stress can help.
If you have high blood pressure we can regularly monitor this.
